One of the first tasks was to set up a framework for the rapid and efficient process of technology transfer opportunities. It was not merely dependant on the classical link between research and application but recognises that innovation arises from a set of complex interaction between individuals (on the ground), organisations and their operating environment. Therefore the technology transfer plan within ProSafeBeef extends far beyond a simple link with research, it is fully integrated with dissemination and training activities. It focuses particularly on the End User Platform and depends strongly on forging dialogue with the researchers and industry personnel within and outside the consortium. This is why a strategic decision was taken to include a high industrial input (especially for SMEs) within the consortium.

 

In order to meet these objectives two types of technology transfer networks have been set up.  Firstly a National Level Network comprising of technical managers from 8-10 SMEs  and a European level network consisting of transnational SMEs represented by their senior staff who meet at international meetings (SIAL, ANUGA) to discuss their experience and to promote the technologies and results from ProSafeBeef.

To assist the evolution of these networks and engage with meaningful dialogues, a midterm audit of technologies emerging from ProSafeBeef was carried out. A template was distributed to partners to complete and return to the Project Bureau identifying technologies with a view to further demonstration actions, commercialisation projects, workshops, etc. and their widest possible distribution to stakeholders with the primary focus of answering the needs of the European Beef Industry and its consumers. This technology audit addresses activities related to ProSafeBeef which have potential for commercial exploitation developing a compendium of technologies. This is seen as a step matching the "technology push and market pull" activities of ProSafeBeef.
